BRUNEI-MUARA: Since its launch back in June 2015, the Mosque Construction Fund has collected a total of BND$1,625,468.72, Brudirect reported.

This was stated by, Awang Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Director of Mosque Affairs, during a presentation of the donations yesterday at Multaqa Hall at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Present as guest of honour was the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.

The amount was collected from various donations and salary deductions from officers and personnel of government sector and government-linked companies (GLC).

The director said funds were also added through donations stemmed from SMS services of telecommunication companies Data Stream Technologies (DST) and Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd (PCSB) which was carried out from October 22 to December 5, 2015.

He also emphasised that contributions from government servants through volunteer salary deductions amounted to BND$56,532.32.

During the event, the Ministry of Education (MoE) presented a donation amounting to BND$39,396 derived from the ministry’s officials and staff. DST also made an additional donation of BND$10,000.

The minister explained that most of the donations were done via banking services such as online banking, standing order instructions, through the counter, and ‘account to account’ transfers.

“All the donations received were from the deposited accounts in Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB),” he said.

“From here, we can see a trend that young people prefer the latest technologies to make contributions to the said fund.

“Alhamdulillah, we are blessed with support showed by the public and proved that we are supporting His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in ensuring the success of the Mosque Construction Fund,” the minister added.
