Duo’s jail term up from 7 to 11 years on appeal

SIBU: Two Indonesians sentenced to seven years’ jail and five strokes of the rattan for armed robbery last year were yesterday ordered by the High Court here to serve an additional four years’ jail.

Abu Siri and Musyadi were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code read with Section 397 of the same code The section provides for an imprisonment term up to 20 years and whipping.

On July 30 last year the Sessions Court handed down a seven-year sentence and five strokes of the rattan when they pleaded guilty to the charge.

They appealed against the sentence. After hearing their appeal yesterday, High Court judge Supang Lian increased their jail term from seven years to 11 years. The number of whipping was maintained.

The duo robbed a couple of valuables worth RM19,000 from a house in Wawasan Lane 8 at 2.30am in June 30 last year.
