LIAM introduces public enquiry facilities to check status of agents

KUALA LUMPUR: The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) has introduced public enquiry facilities via the Internet and short message service (SMS) to check the status of insurance agents.

In a statement yesterday, LIAM said this was to ascertain whether an individual the public was dealing with to buy life insurance products was registered with it as an authorised agent.

LIAM President, Toi See Jong, said the online and SMS verification aimed to help the public check the authenticity of the people they were dealing with, on matters related to the purchase of life insurance products.

“The public enquiry facilities are part of the initiatives undertaken by the industry to protect the consumers in championing our efforts to nurture an industry that embraces accountability, integrity and competency.

“Only individuals registered with LIAM are authorised to promote, market and distribute life insurance products in the country,” Toi said.

The life insurance industry has about 85,000 agents registered with LIAM.

Members of the public were advised to contact LIAM – at 03 2691 6168/6628/8068 or e-mail their enquiries at [email protected] – should they encounter any unauthorised agents promoting, marketing and distributing life insurance products in the market. — Bernama
