SHAH ALAM: A retired soldier was sentenced to death by the High Court here yesterday after being found guilty of trafficking in 363.4 gm of cannabis in 2012.

Raja Jamil Raja Hamid, 65, showed no reaction when the sentence was passed on him by justice Datuk Ghazali Cha.
In his judgment, Ghazali said the evidence given by the defence failed to raise any reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case. The accused was charged with trafficking the drug at No 16-2B, Jalan UP 1/1, Taman Ukay Perdana, Ampang, near here, around 7 pm, on June 8, 2012.

According to Ghazali, Raja Jamil in his defence, said he had gone to the house for religious studies.

“In general, I will agree with the defence that the house is accessible to many people, but during the raid, no one except the accused and the sixth prosecution witness were at the scene,” he said.

During the raid at 7pm, the judge said, there was no other person at the house and the bag containing the drugs was found in a room being used by the accused to rest. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Hafizza Sauni and the accused was represented by counsel Hasshahari Johari Mawi. — Bernama
