PENAMPANG: The Federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has allocated RM48 million for the construction of a water treatment plant here.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri in revealing this, said the plant would provide clean water not only to the rural folk of Penampang but also to those in other areas in the district, and even Kota Kinabalu.

Ismail, who said this during a meet-the-people event in the opposition-held constituency yesterday however did not reveal further details on the project.

The minister also announced that he had approved a project to build 30 units of Hard Core Poor Housing (PPRT) in Penampang.

“Should more PPRT be needed, Division Umno chief Datuk John Ambrose could always get in touch to request for additional allocation,” he said.

He also allocated RM400,000 for building a new community hall and another RM300,000 for upgrading a road at Kampung Sugud where the event was held.

Meanwhile, Ismail, who is also Umno national supreme council member, said the opposition had failed to bring about any development or progress to the people of Penampang since winning the seat over two years ago.

“I would like to remind the Rakyat again, don’t ever fall for the lies of the opposition. The community needs to ask itself what development has been given by the opposition,” he said.

He added that only the Barisan Nasional (BN) government was in the right position and capable of bringing about development to the people.

He also said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was a leader for all, regardless of race, ethnic or religion.

At the state level, he said Umno and BN would remain strong under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman.

“We hope we will be able to take back Penampang in the coming election,” said Ismail.

Also present were Datuk John Ambrose, Penampang BN chief Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, Penampang MCA chief Datuk Francis Goh and other BN leaders from the district.
