LAHAD DATU: The Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) in Lahad Datu has the best port infrastructure in Sabah with a port draft clearance of 25 metres deep of port that cannot be found anywhere in the state.

POIC chairman Datuk Nasrun Datu Mansur said the POIC is equipped with a dry-bulk port terminal, a liquid terminal with the latest addition, a container terminal worth RM450 million that is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016.

He said up until January 2016, POIC has attracted investments of up to RM9 billion since it was first developed in 2005 together with 62 investors who had purchased the land and built the basic infrastructure for the industry’s needs.

“Foreign investments are important in boosting the industrial sector in Sabah to a higher position in the domestic economy. POIC will continue to focus on developing comprehensive and appropriate infrastructures in order to attract more foreign investors,”he said during his visit to POIC to review the progress and development of POIC yesterday.

Nasrun was briefed by Datuk Dr Pang Teck Wai, chief executive officer of POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd on the POIC’s development and progress.

He also visited the three terminals of the port to get a general idea of its operations before touring the three industrial factories in POIC, Mewah Datu Sdn Bhd, Ecooils Sabah Sdn Bhd, and Genting Biodiesel Sdn Bhd.
