KUCHING: Betong MP Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah remained coy when asked whether he would be nominated to contest in the upcoming state election.

Advising the public to treat it as mere rumours, the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president said the news seemed to have spread around from everybody except the horse’s mouth.

He added that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who is also PBB president and state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, had not approached him to talk about the possibility of contesting in the upcoming polls.

“Everybody seems to be talking about me contesting in the state election except me. Also, I did not receive any words from the chief minister,” he told reporters when met after officiating at the ‘Reach and Remind Friends of the Industry Seminar 2016 & Dialogue’ at Pullman Hotel here yesterday.

When pressed further if he would consider contesting in the state election, Uggah avoided commenting on the matter.

Meanwhile, at a function in Pusa over the weekend, Uggah said he was surprised to hear that he would be one of the candidates in the upcoming state election.

Responding to queries from reporters after the event, he said a candidate would have to be given a ‘ticket’ to contest.

He said he had not received such ‘ticket’.

Rumours have gained traction of late that there is a possibility that the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities might swap seats with Bukit Saban assemblyman Robert Lawson Chuat in the state election. It is also believed that the move was to pave the way for Uggah to become the next deputy chief minister.

Adenan, at a press conference at PBB headquarters here on Jan 24, was also coy on the matter and merely said there was a possibility that seat swapping might happen come nomination day.
