KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem will meet the Minister of Education to discuss matters pertaining to schools in Sarawak.

“Yes, (I will meet the education minister). Just to talk about educational matters,” he said when met by journalists after opening a new school building for Chung Hua Primary School No. 1 yesterday.

Adenan added that the forthcoming discussion would focus on the condition of schools particularly rural ones in the state.

In his speech earlier, Adenan said he would talk to the Minister of Education on the state’s emphasis on the use of English.

He was quick to assure that the national language Bahasa Malaysia would not be neglected despite Sarawak’s aspiration to emphasise the international language.

“BM (Bahasa Malaysia) will not be neglected, but there will be some changes. Also, we do not want to see too frequent changes in education policies which confuse our students. We must be more consistent.”

On an unrelated matter, Adenan kept mum on whether Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu had decided to step down.

“I don’t know. You ask him lah,” said Adenan before leaving the school for another function at SMK St. Joseph.
