KAPIT: A total of 17 archers from Kapit and Sibu took part in archery competitions organised by the Sibu Divisional Archery Association (SDAA) in Sibu recently.

Secretary of Sibu Division Archery Association Simon Wong said the competitions, besides fostering ties among archery enthusiasts between the two neighbouring towns of Kapit and Sibu, were to sharpen skill and accuracy.

He said archery is one of the latest trending sports in town, rapidly gaining in popularity among the locals.

However, he advised those who were interested to contact any member of the association for guidance.

He added that there is considerable protocol to archery, for example to fit the equipment of bow and arrow, how to stalk the target as well as how to manoeuver body muscles.

President of the Sibu Division Archery Association, Tiong Kiong King, presented the prizes to the winners of the recent competitions.

Champion was Hii Bee Chung who received a cash prize of RM100 and a gold medal.

The only lady archer was Ellyne Tong, a teacher, who received a special hamper as encouragement to her participation.
