KAPIT: Four schools took part in the MSS Inter-Secondary Schools Age-group Badminton Championships to select promising shuttlers for the state’s challenge before the national competition in March.

Organised by the Kapit Education Department, the two-day competition held on Wednesday and Thursday at Bletih Stadium saw the participation of eager students of SMK Selirik, SMK Kapit, SMK Kapit 2 and SMK Song.

The competition was to select players to represent Kapit at the state level age-group badminton competitions to be held from Feb 23-25 in Sarikei while the national level will be from March 13-16.

In the Boys’ Under-18 singles, Ngu Teck Ting emerged champion, followed by Wong Lin Yong and Sng Wei Chern, third.

In the Boys’ Under-15 singles, Lau Meng Eng came tops, with Joger Dong next and Daylan Keling Jarit in third spot.

Michelle Wong won the Girls’ Under-18 singles, followed by Kong Peng Ngo and Tiong Yon Sze, third. Principal of SMK Kapit, Azlinda Mohd Nor, presided over the closing ceremony and prize presentation, along with officers Leo Matthias Kamandang, Rajis Nyalau and Jee Kook Fong. — by James Ling
