No Malaysians affected by Taiwan quake

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians were affected in the earthquake which struck the Pingtung region in Taiwan early today.

International media reported that five people were killed in the earthquake, including a baby girl aged 10 months, while 35 people were feared trapped.

In a statement, Wisma Putra said it would continue to monitor and update information on the incident which occurred at 3.57am.

“Malaysians in Taiwan should always communicate with our office in Taiwan and follow all directives and advice of the authorities,” it said.

The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan at 28km north east of the Pingtung region. – Bernama
