Trio jailed for possessing drugs

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were jailed for eight months while another man was jailed for seven months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possessing syabu.

Abdir Ahmad, Faizal Amborsil and Fabian Gregory, who were brought before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, pleaded guilty to each of their charges under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The indictment provides for a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both, upon conviction.

Abdir and Faizal were jailed for eight months for possessing 0.56 grammes and 0.27 grammes of syabu, respectively.

Abdir was arrested for committing the offence at an unnumbered house in Kampung Petagas while Faizal was caught at a village in Putatan on December 12, 2015 and February 2, respectively.

Meanwhile, Fabian was jailed for seven months for possessing 0.02 grammes of syabu at Kampung Sembulan here on December 12, 2015.

The court also ordered Albir and Faizal to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their jail sentences.

Meanwhile, eight persons, including a woman, were jailed between five and eight months while another three men were fined RM2,000, in default, nine months’ jail each by the same court for consuming syabu.

All the accused pleaded guilty before the magistrate to each of their chrges under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable with a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a maximum jail term of two years, on conviction.

They were arrested for consuming the drugs after their urine samples tested positive between November 17, 2015 and January 6.

The court also ordered two men to be referred to the Immigration Department while the others to be placed under police supervision for two years.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Isfandiar Dr Jasdi prosecuted in all the cases.
