KUCHING: The simultaneous deaths of three pet dogs proved ominous for a family in Batu Kawa as a few days later they were bound and robbed by masked intruders.

Around 3am yesterday three knife-wielding men broke into the family’s home at Taman Beautiful and entered the bedroom of the couple’s son, where they grabbed hold of him and tied him up.

They proceeded to the master bedroom and similarly bound the couple, in their 50s, before doing the same to their daughter in her bedroom.

The trio, who are believed to be foreigners, threatened to harm the family if they tried to resist and spent about 30 minutes ransacking the house before fleeing with two mobile phones and about RM6,000 in cash.

Following the departure of the robbers, the family was able to free themselves and immediately made their way to the police station to report the incident.

A source close to the family said they believed the robbers had prepared for the roberry days earlier by poisoning their pet dogs.

“Initially, the family thought the simultaneous deaths of the three dogs were a result of illness. They now suspect the canines had been poisoned by the robbers,” said the source.

When contacted yesterday, Padawan deputy district police chief DSP Yap Fui Lee confirmed that an investigation had been launched following a report made by the family.

“Initial investigation has revealed the suspects entered the house at Taman Beautiful, Jalan Field Force, by forcing open the main door,” he said, adding there had been no arrest made thus far.
