KUCHING: A semi-wooden house at Kampung Semariang Baru in Petra Jaya was destroyed by fire which broke out around 5.45am yesterday.
The occupants, comprising three males and three females, smelled smoke and fled when they saw the flames.
State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) deputy operations director Farhan Sufyan Borhan said 18 personnel were despatched to the scene after receiving a call at 5.48am.
“Firemen from Petra Jaya Fire Station arrived at the location at 6am followed by additional personnel from Padungan Fire Station, and brought the situation under control at 6.06am.
“At that juncture, the fire had burnt approximately 90 per cent of the house and destroyed a Perodua Kancil parked in the porch,” he said.
The operation ended at 6.44am.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated by Bomba forensics personnel.
