LAHAD DATU: A goldsmith shop here and a grocer in Tawau were robbed yesterday.

The goldsmith shop owner had just opened for business about 7.50am when two armed men entered the shop and emptied a tray of gold jewellery before fleeing in a Proton Iswara car.

Sabah Crime Investigation Department chief SAC Datuk Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said both of the suspects, dressed in dark were armed with objects, believed to be a gun and an iron bar.

“The losses are estimated about RM200,000 and investigation is still being carried out to identify the suspects.

“A manhunt has been carried by the police,” he said.

He added the case was investigated under Section 4 of the Firearms Act 1971 (Increased Penalty).

In Tawau, a 36-year-old Indonesian grocery shop owner was robbed of RM10,000 cash by three men wearing helmets by the roadside of Jalan Benta, Kalabakan towards Merotai here on Friday.

District police chief ACP Fadil Bin Hj Marsus said the incident happened about 6.45pm when the victim stopped his Nissan Frontier to urinate at the roadside.

He was then approached by a man from behind, who pointed a knife at his waist for money.

The victim felt scared and gave his pouch bag to the  man while another two men were waiting on two motorcycles.

They then rode off towards Merotai.

The victim was unable to identify the three men and the model of their motorcycles. The RM10,000 was from sales made at the grocery shop in Ladang Benta.

Fadil said the police would investigate the case under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code. He urged members of the public with any information to contact the police at 089-772121.
