KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil says the Dengue Taskforce which was set up last year is already on alert mode to fight dengue outbreak in the state.

He said even though there are fewer cases recorded so far as compared to last year, the state would not take such situation for granted.

“I would say that the general picture (of dengue cases) in the state is low now. Up to now we recorded lower incidence as compared to last year, but we are not taking things for granted,” Dr Jerip told reporters yesterday.

He had earlier distributed ‘ang pow’ and food items to the less fortunate in Siburan, together with United People’s Party (UPP) Batu Kawah branch chairman Liu Thian Leong.

Dr Jerip said Health Department was carrying out intensive surveillance in Demak Laut in view of the rising cases of dengue fever there.

According to him, the department was now identifying hotspots in the area, saying that the cases had risen due to the wet season.

“The team (Health Department) is now carrying out fogging activity and gotong royong to destroy the mosquito larvae,” he said.
