MIRI: Sarawakians have been urged to treasure and uphold the cultural and religious freedom prevailing in the country particularly in the state.

Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin in his Chinese New Year message said; “It has enabled our various communities to live peacefully and harmoniously together. We should not allow any extremist to destroy it.”

The chief minister, he said, had publicly declared that he would not allow any racial, religious or political extremists to enter Sarawak .

“For the Chinese community, he has made it clear that no one should call the Chinese as ‘pendatang’. He has been giving full assistance to Chinese independent schools and also recognize UEC.”

Apart from that he had also succeeded in getting Petronas to give Sarawak companies at least  RM2.1 billion worth of contracts.

“We should express our thanks and appreciation to him and give him our full support in the coming state election. “

Lee noted that the Chief Minster has very important task ahead in the next five years to ensure Sarawak would get more autonomy and devolution of powers from Federal government, especially those stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Inter Governmental Committee Report.

“Let us stay united in our true Sarawakian spirit to give strong mandate to Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to lead Sarawak to greater heights and success. May all of us have a happy and blessed year ahead,” he concluded.
