KUCHING: The flood situation has worsened in Sarawak but improved in Johor and Melaka.

In SARAWAK, the total number of flood evacuees in Kuching and Bau has risen to 1,065 people from 253 families this morning as compared to 765 people from 175 families last night.
Sarawak Civil Service Department (JPAM) public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim in a statement said two more relief centres were opened in Kuching, bring the total to nine.
She said one more relief centre was also opened in Bau at Surau Dahrul Idayah last night, bringing to four the number of evacuation centres to accomodate the victims.

However, she added that the relief centre at Dewan Serbaguna Taman Malihah, about 20km from Kuching, saw the number of evacuees drop to just 66 people as compared to 469 last night.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said aid was extended to the victims promptly despite logistical difficulties where some of the relief centres were concerned.

She told Bernama that Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem who visited the Dewan Serbaguna Taman Malihah relief centre was very satisfied with the relief efforts.
She congratulated and thanked all staff and volunteers involved in the relief efforts.
In JOHOR, the total number of flood victims in Tangkak and Segamat dropped slightly, from 137 people last night to 135 people this morning. They are being sheltered at four relief centres.
According to the state Disaster Management Committee, the 135 people are from 35 families and the affected areas were Kampung Awat and Kampung Spang Loi in Segamat, while in Tangkak, they were Kampung Seberang Gajah, Kampung Sialang, Kampung Tanjung Laboh and Seri Makmur.
In MELAKA, Melaka JPAM director Lt Kol (PA) Effendy Ali said the total number of evacuees at two relief centres in Alor Gajah dropped to 189 people involving 47 families at 8am today as compared to 280 people from 69 families last night. — BERNAMA
