SIBU: The former Fifth Formers of Sacred Heart Secondary School are just as naughty and playful as when they were 30 years ago, if the recent mini reunion here is anything to go by.

Still, nobody could blame them as many were born in the ‘Year of the Monkey’, which returns this year. It was certainly not a quiet affair as the former schoolmates chatted and joked with each other — a friendship that was forged three decades ago. They were still calling each other by their nicknames in school.

The lot, dressed in their ‘traditional uniform’ of red T-shirts, each affixed with a school badge in front, was the very one who painted the town red during the grand reunion last April.

For members of the ‘Class of 85’, the night was reminiscent of the good old days when they cycled house-to-house for the festive visit. Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, who is a former head prefect, told The Borneo Post that this was a prelude to their coming class reunion.

“The grand ‘Class of 85 Reunion’ has been planned for at Empress Ballroom Kingwood Hotel on April 1 (Friday), but many classmates requested to meet up before the Chinese New Year.

“Hence, a mini reunion took place at the restaurant of Orchid Hotel, where about 50 former classmates and their spouses gathered for a reunion buffet,” Hii said.

WhatsApp and WeChat sessions had help to foster ties among the former classmates, he added.
