KUCHING: SEGi University and Colleges will be among the participants of the seventh edition of the annual Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF), taking place this Feb 27-28 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), running from 10am to 6pm daily.

SEGi, which houses approximately 27,000 students, is among the largest institutions of tertiary learning in the nation, with five campuses nationwide.

It has been offering top-notch programmes since its founding as a ‘Systematic College’ and after nearly four decades, it now offers a wide range of programmes — from pre-university to post-graduate level — to suit every learner’s needs.

“SEGi College Sarawak is the gateway for the group to East Malaysia,” a spokesperson of the university said.

“Established with the prime objective of providing quality training to school-leavers and preparing them for a bright future, SEGi College Sarawak today stands as one of the largest private colleges in East Malaysia.”

According to the spokesperson, the campus here is well-known for its law degree programme. The highly sought-after LLB (Bachelor of Law) is awarded by the University of London International Programmes (UK), which has been awarding law degrees for over 100 years and offers the security of an internationally recognised ‘Gold Standard’ degree.

“To suit the demands of the local workforce and to make law more accessible, SEGi has developed its own homegrown Diploma in Law, which the students may take before furthering their studies at degree level overseas.

“Upon graduation, students who meet the requirements will be able to undertake either the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) in Malaysia or The Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) in the UK before entering the legal profession; or enter other fields such as journalism, public relations, in house legal advisor, teaching or research.”

SEGi College Sarawak also highlighted the ‘4+0 American Degree Programme’ as its other sought-after programme, which would provide students with the opportunity to experience the American education system with an all-rounded approach, balanced by theoretical and practical knowledge via lectures, group work, projects, presentations and field trips.

“The programme enables students to gain a quality American education and complete it in its entirety in Malaysia, without having to go to the US. Students also have a choice to undertake ‘2+2, 1+3’, or ‘3+1’ options with SEGi College Sarawak and Troy University in Alabama, US.”

Another popular programme by SEGi College Sarawak is one on ‘Early Childhood Care and Education’ (ECCE), of which the university has been supplying the nation with thousands of highly-qualified ECCE practitioners since 1999.

Moreover, the Malaysian government has appointed SEGi as the ‘Champion of Entry Point Project (EPP) 2’ under the Education National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) to mass promote and train practitioners with high calibre. Currently, both full-time and weekend/evening classes are available for both diploma and degree programmes.

Another good programme offered by SEGi College Sarawak that of ‘Hospitality and Tourism’ — designed to equip students with skills and knowledge that are increasingly in demand.

Currently, the Sarawak campus has diploma programmes on hotel management, culinary arts, and baking and pastry.

Additionally, the Faculty of Business and Accountancy is the largest and oldest in SEGi. Its MBA is available for individuals who are more into strategy and management, as the programme would enhance their knowledge at a higher level.

“To meet the rising demands for capable globalised business leaders, SEGi now offers a breakthrough method to enable adult learners pursue a business qualification at their own convenience — anywhere and anytime — called PACE, or ‘Professional and Continuing Education’.

The concept is a consortium of global universities that enables mature students to learn at their own pace and complete their studies with assurance that they can still attend to other obligations while having a fulfilling work-life balance,” the spokesperson said.
