KENINGAU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) Women movement will continue to fight for the right to contest 30 percent of the seats in the 14th general election (GE14).

Malaysian Wanita Umno vice chief Datuk Hajjah Azizah Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Dun said if there were additional seats for the State Legislative Assembly, the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership should give them to BN women candidates in GE14.

“The women BN movement is still struggling for 30 per cent women candidates in the upcoming 14th general election,” she said at a press conference after a working visit and lunch with Pensiangan Wanita BN at the Perkasa Hotel here on Tuesday.

She also reminded BN women members that any problems, including dissatisfaction, be resolved through the proper channels.

Azizah said they were free to give their views but not to criticize through the media, which would not be suitable.

‘If they are not satisfied, they can solve (problems) within the party.

“I ask leaders and members of Pensiangan Women BN to remain united, work together and strengthen solidarity to strengthen BN in this area,” she said.

Earlier in her speech Azizah, who is also Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, urged Pensiangan BN women to continue to work together to strengthen the BN party machinery to face the 14th general election.

She assured that through strong cooperation, BN Pensiangan can repeat the success achieved in the 13th General Election, with majority (votes) further increased.

Azizah expressed hope that the BN leadership’s strength can also be used to strengthen community cooperation in Pensiangan.

She also requested that the women BN machinery in this area give priority to the struggle for victory of BN candidates in the coming general election.

Azizah also requested that leaders and members of the movement not to be fooled by the tactics of the opposition who always looked for opportunities to divide BN members.

“I hope the understanding and cooperation among members and leaders of the movement can ensure Pensiangan remains with BN in GE14,” she said.

Present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin, Wanita Umno Pensiangan chief and chairperson of the women, family and community council, Hajjah Zaiton OKK Anik, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah Woman chief Zainun Kayum Khan, Pensiangan parliamentary liaison officer Francis Rayner Udong representing Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup and Nabawan Community Development leader Jubilin Kilan representing Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Bobbey Ahfang Suan.
