KUCHING: Fine weather since yesterday has allowed more flood evacuees in Sarawak to return to their homes, leaving 5,218 people at 28 relief centres as at 8am compared to 5,412 last night.

Sarawak Department of Civil Defence public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim, when contacted, said 20 of the relief centres were in the Kuching district and four each in the Bau and Serian districts.

She said the levels of the rivers had returned to normal and expressed optimism that more evacuees would be able to return to their homes today (Feb 11).

Disaster management agencies continued to monitor areas close to rivers, including with the assistance of police helicopters and drones of the Department of Civil Defence. –Bernama
