Jarau (second row fourth left) and his village security and development committee members show their support for Entri.

MIRI: Tuai Rumah Jarau Ponyang from Long Tabeng, Tinjar has claimed that his community has turned from the opposition to supporting Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said this is because only the BN government is sincere about helping the community to progress and can deliver the people’s needs, especially for those living in the interior.

“We were supporting the opposition but are now feeling easy with the BN government and our elected representative (Marudi assemblyman) Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran, who can be easily contacted on any problems or issues here in Tinjar,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“We, the rural community in Tinjar, are thankful to the BN government and Datuk Entri who has continuously helped
the people all these years without any favouritism.”

According to Jarau, claims by certain quarters that Entri is practising ‘divide and rule’ are baseless and merely political propaganda by those wishing to contest because Entri has served all communities in Marudi regardless of race or religion.

He said Entri has brought much development to Marudi with longhouses there enjoying facilities such as electricity and water supplies as well as good roads.

“For us, the longhouse folk in Tinjar, we have to be patient as the government cannot do projects such as electricity, roads and water in a few months as they need to be done stage by stage according to location,” he said.

“Claims by certain groups of people that Entri is not doing his work are baseless because before, to reach Tinjar, it was only accessible by river, but today many plantations and timber roads reach our longhouses.”

He added that the Berawan community in Tinjar supports Entri as he has shown commitment to helping the people.
“We can see him every week in the constituency if he is not on official duty in Kuching,” he said.

“On behalf of the people of Long Tabeng, Tinjar, I call on the community to give undivided support to the BN government and Datuk Entri this upcoming state election.”
