One diamond miner buried by avalanche in Banjarbaru

BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: A diamond prospector died buried by an avalanche of pits that serves as panning in the Pumpung village, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Thursday afternoon, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Chairman of the Neighborhood (RT) 30, Pumpung Village, Arkani, in Banjarbaru Thursday afternoon recognized the tragedy experienced by a prospector.

“We used to call him Ansyah. He was found dead buried in the mining hole around 13:00,” he said.

The victim name is Badriansyah (35). While his brother, Alfiansyah, managed to escape death after fleeing during a landslide in the panning hole.

Chief of Eastern Banjarbaru Sector Police AKP Avan Suligi said the landslide in the hole that led to one of prospector dead buried.

“The cause of avalanches possibly the top soil and sand were not able to withstand the brunt of the heavy rain that fell on Wednesday (10/2) night,” he said.

When the incident, fellow survivors had tried to save the life of the victim, a resident of RT 27 Sungai Tiung Village, but failed.

The victim’s body was found about half an hour after being buried, but he was already dead and immediately taken to the funeral home.

“The panning area after rain is prone to landslides, so we asked prospectors to be careful or reduce activity,” he said.

Diamond panning area which is about 10 kilometers from the center Banjarbaru is often claimed the lives of prospectors due to be buried in the hole.
