MIRI: The 2nd Subis Water Sport will be held in Bekenu from Feb 19 to 21.

It is organised by Saberkas Bekenu branch in collaboration with Subis District Office, Subis District Council, YB Bekenu Service Centre and Bekenu Sport and Recreational Club.

“We are expecting some 20,000 people from various areas to flock to Bekenu for the three-day event,” Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development, Rosey Yunus told The Borneo Post Thursday.

Rosey who is also Bekenu assemblywoman said the organising committee received good response in terms of participation in the water sports from local and interested entries in Brunei.

She said last year, the race event was only for power boat but this year there are categories for rafting, tunner of 30hp (two pistons), and two traditional Kedayan boat racing categories for Kayuh Kuntul in pair and Sambai.

Rosey said during the event on Feb 20, a team of athletes including Watson Nyambek would stop at Bekenu for the Baton Run to promote Sarawak Sukma.

There will be additional night programmes on traditional performances such as bermukun, singing by two local recording artistes, live band The Green Finger and youth body building.

There will be some 400 stalls selling food and drinks with half of them taken by traders from outside.

Earlier Rosey checked on preparations for the event.
