KUCHING: Flood relief centres here have seen off the last of residents affected by floods today (Feb 13), announced Sarawak Department of Civil Defence public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim.

“All flood relief centres are now officially closed,” she stated in a WhatsApp group message.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in the relief efforts for their hard work and contribution.

“Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to make sure that everything ran smoothly. It is thanks to everyone’s contribution to the relief efforts,” she added.

The number of evacuees at relief centres in affected districts had peaked at 5,578 during the floods over the last few days.

Agencies such as the Department of Civil Defence, Fire and Rescue Service, Police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Social Welfare Department, Health Department, the Resident’s Office, Sarawak National Security Council and volunteerrs from the public contributed to the relief efforts.
