Body of missing fisherman found

PUTATAN: The body of a fisherman who was reported missing and feared drowned since Thursday at Teluk Villa, Taman Pasir Putih, here was found by a search and rescue team yesterday morning.

Marine police found the body of Wahid Sappani, 69, from Kampung Pasir Putih, some 100 meters from where he was first reported missing on February 11.

Penampang police chief DSP Rosley Hobden said the victim’s body was fished out of the sea around 8.20am yesterday and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem.

According to police investigation, the victim was reported missing since 4.30pm on February 11.

It was believed that the victim had left his home around 4pm to fish in the sea alone.

However, villagers later found the victim’s fishing boat by the shore and a search and rescue operation was carried out involving the marine police, Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel and villagers.
