SIBU: New consul of the General Consulate of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Fu Ji Jun and wife Liu Sha were feted to a welcoming dinner reception hosted by Sibu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) at Golden Happiness Restaurant here on Friday night.

Among those present were president of SCCCI, Hu Yu Siong; president of United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu, Ting Huat Chie; Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau, chairman of CCK Group, Datuk Tiong Su Kouk; and chairman of Rajang Port Authority, Vincent Goh.

Addressing the reception, Fu hoped for continuous cooperation and friendship for a win-win situation between China and Sarawak.

“It is hoped ties between China and Sarawak will further strengthen, apart from generating more positive contributions, such as towards economy, education, trade, social and cultural,” he stated.

Hu, who also spoke, was confident relations between China and Malaysia, in particular Sarawak, would continue to be strengthened based on the existing good diplomacy between the two countries, which had benefited both countries in terms of trade.

Billions of ringgit, especially in trade, had been generated between the two countries, which augured well for a win-win situation for both countries.

He said since the economic downturn in 2008, the two countries had cooperated to overcome the negative phenomenon that affected the daily lives of the people at large.

Fu, who was here on a two-day working visit, also attended the Chinese New Year gathering 2016 hosted by UCA Sibu 2016 on Feb 11.

Later, he paid a courtesy call on the chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Datuk Tiong Thai King in his office at Level 24 of Wisma Sanyan.

During the call, he was briefed on the surroundings of Sibu town and administrative matters of SMC.
