BAU: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party, SPDP’s candidate for Tasik Biru Dato Henry Harry Jinep has hit the trail with a meet-the-people session at Kampung Serikin on Friday night.
The simple function held at the village hall was well attended, especially by youths, due to Henry’s popularity and reputation as a Bidayuh corporate figure.
Representatives from other Barisan Nasional components were also present as a show of support and solidarity for SPDP’s right to defend the Tasik Biru state seat.
Organising chairman for the event, SPDP supreme council member Joing Mideh said the function served as a platform to tell others that SPDP was ready to defend Tasik Biru for BN.
It was also to enable the voters to get close and personal with Henry, who was recently recommended by SPDP as the BN candidate for this seat, and to brief them on the current political situation, he added.
“The SPDP top leadership have agreed that Dato Henry Harry Jinep is our candidate for Tasik Biru. He is a very qualified person to represent this seat. And even before his name was nominated, he is also already well known to the people here for his many contributions to the community in Tasik Biru,” said Joing.
Meanwhile, Henry in his address said he was ready and willing to defend the seat for BN. “I am prepared to contest in this election and I am ready to work for the people,” he reiterated.
“I thank those of you who come tonight (Friday night). Based on the BN principle, only SPDP as a BN component has the right to contest this seat under the BN banner,” he said.
SPDP Jagoi branch chief Dominic Ritay and PBB representative Mosem Simed, who also spoke, told the audience that Henry was the best and most capable person to represent Tasik Biru.
The function at Kampung Serikin was among several events planned this month to promote and introduce Henry as the BN – SPDP candidate for Tasik Biru.
SPDP secretary general Anthony Nogeh Gumbek, when announcing Henry as BN candidate on Feb 6, had cited Henry as the most winnable candidate for the seat.
