BETONG: An agriculture office will be set up in Nanga Tiga near here similar to the one at SK Nanga Lawih which was built at a cost of RM4 million to provide various services to the rural villages.

At the same time, Simpang Layar near here which is a Rural Growth Centre will be developed into a Regional Transformation Centre at a cost of RM5 million.

The RTC will have an immigration counter which can process passports in two hours, apart from housing other government services counters.

These were revealed by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu at the launching of Rh Biju Women’s Bureau, Nanga Ajau here recently.

“The office and counters exist because the government is sincere in helping to develop the rural areas by providing various government services, especially in Betong,” said Jabu.

Jabu urged the Women’s Bureau to always co-operate with the Village Security and Development Committee in implementing socio-economic activities that would help uplift the status of rural villagers.

“The Chief Minister has applied for an allocation of RM500 million to develop rural areas and thus the opposition must be rejected because they don’t agree with the Chief Minister’s effort.”

Jabu revealed that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem would be in Betong on Feb 19 to officiate at the ground breaking ceremony for the new wet market to house 196 stalls meant for roadside sellers.

At the function, Jabu announced an allocation of RM5,000 for Rh Biju Women’s Bureau.

Also present were Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak president Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, Betong Resident Romie Sigan and Rh Biju Women’s Bureau chief Mingat Garit.
