SANDAKAN: A 20-year-old fisherman was beaten to death while having breakfast at a coffeeshop here around 4.30am yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Zabidi Md Zain said that the victim was eating with two friends when a man came to his table and hit his head.
The fisherman’s two friends fled, leaving him at the scene.
Passers-by saw the victim lying lifeless by the roadside at Old Slip Way Road and reported to the police.
Zabidi said the weapon used by the suspect was still under investigation.
“Police received a call regarding the incident around 4.45am and a team was sent to the scene where they found the victim’s body with blood and wounds on his face and head.
“An inspection found no weapon at the scene. A K9 unit was also sent to the location,” he said, adding a post-mortem would be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Zabidi said police were still looking for the suspect and investigating the incident.
He urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
