KOTA KINABALU: A woman and her former boss caused a stir on social media for the past several days when she claimed that her employer had attempted to rape her.

The incident came to light when the woman, in her 20s, claimed in Facebook that her former employer had attempted to rape her late last month.

Following some nasty criticism levelled at the man and encouragement from social media users, the woman lodged a police report in Ranau early this month.

The woman’s police report claimed that the attempted rape happened at a parking lot in Beverly Hills on January 31.

The man, in his 40s from Peninsular Malaysia, also lodged a police report claiming that the woman had misappropriated some company’s property.

Penampang police chief DSP Rosley Hobden, when contacted yesterday, said police had opened investigation papers on both the man and woman and were currently waiting for further action from the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

“We are just waiting for further instruction from the Deputy Public Prosecutor on whether to press charges against both or either one of them.

“Police have also recorded statements from both of them to assist investigation,” he said.

According to Rosley, the woman claimed that the man had attempted to rape her at a parking lot in Beverly Hills on Jan 31, while the man’s police report claimed that the woman had misused company property, including not returning a company’s handphone after she resigned.

He said both cases would be investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty, and Section 403 of the same code for dishonest misappropriation of property.
