TAWAU: Local residents are again reminded against wearing army fatigues to avoid causing alarm among the public.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid stressed that it was an offence to wear such attire, “and even the army follow certain ethics when putting them on”.

“We want the community to realise this…we want to avoid incidents like the incursion by Sulu sultanate militants, who were wearing army fatigues when they intruded upon Tanduo, Lahad Datu,” he said at a gathering with the media here last night.

Meanwhile, Wan Abdul Bari said media practitioners play a major role in helping ESSCom to promote awareness in the community of the latter’s role to ensure that security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) remain under control.

“In this regard, media practioners must always make sure that the information they channel is accurate and from a credible source.

“They should avoid writing reports that would evoke sentiments and disrupt public order,” he said. – Bernama
