Flood worsens, flood victims increase to 2,869

KUCHING: The number of flood victims housed at relief centres in the Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisons have increased to 2,869 people from 486 last night due to intermittent heavy rain in several places since yesterday (Feb 20).

Sarawak Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said 22 relief centres were opened this morning to house 2,896 victims from 779 families.

At present eight relief centres were opened in Kuching district and nine in Bau district while in Serian division two relief centres were opened in Serian district and one in Padawan, she said when contacted here today.

She said in Samarahan division, two relief centres were opened, including  in Masjid Darul Ibadah, in Kota Samarahan district which housed 68 victims from 13 families.

Last night only three relief centres were opened in Kuching division and three in Serian division. – Bernama
