The performers include M-Girls, Dayang Nurfaizah Awang Dowty, Jerry Kamit, Dewi Liana Seriestha and Dr Joanne Yeoh.

The function is organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the state government.

Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee told reporters yesterday that M-Girls – Malaysian version of S.H.E – is a four-member Malaysian girl group formed in the late 2000. Most of their albums are of Chinese New Year songs.

Dayang Nurfaizah is a popular Malaysian singer while Jerry Kamit is a renowned sape player. Dewi Liana Seriestha, on the other hand, was once crowned Miss World Talent and Joanne Yeoh Pei Sze a professional Malaysian violinist.

With Hii when meeting reporters yesterday were the event performance director Rosnan Nordin who is the director of Production & Artistic Development Section of the National Development for Culture and Art, event stage manager Jumali Azudin and Resident’s Office secretary Casseylia Benet.

On the event, Hii said it would be preceded by a ‘pre-show’ from 4pm to 6pm, with items including a lion dance, 24-season drums performance and live singing with KPS Band in attendance.

By around 8pm, dignitaries including Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Minister of Tourism and Culture Dato Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh are expected to arrive.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will arrive at 8.25pm.

Their arrival will be greeted by a display of fireworks, greetings from the monkey mascot, lion dance and 24-season drums performance.

After the ‘Negaraku’ and ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ the welcoming performance by the M-Girl and 18 lions from the lion dance troupes will take centre stage with their ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’. A video presentation and a speech by Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh follow.

After that, the 10 ‘Fire Monkeys’ from the Deh Yee Stage Pro Group of Malacca will perform.

Adenan and Najib will then deliver their respective speeches, following which the night’s celebration would be launched.

Then, the Kun Sen Keng Dragon and Lion Dance Association and the ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ 24-season drums performance will begin, followed by the performances of the nation’s very own artistes.

After the Gong Xi Fa Cai presentation, Najib and his wife will make their departure.

The evening programme will however continue.
