MIRI: School alumni are encouraged to develop good networking with government and private agencies in order to further develop their former schools.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said alumni could become the catalyst for the schools to progress through the contribution of former students especially those in professional fields.

Awang Tengah said this when officiating at SMK Agama Miri’s Charity Dinner at Mega Hotel on Saturday.

His text of speech was read by Assistant Minister of Early Childhood Education and Family Development Rosey Yunus.

He also reminded parents to work closely with the school authorities and not leave the education of their children to the teachers alone.

At the same function, Rosey on behalf of Awang Tengah announced a government grant of RM30,000 for the school.

Rosey also contributed RM15,000 while Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat chipped in another RM10,000 government grant for the school.

The charity dinner was to raise fund for the school to improve its surau facilities, classrooms and hostels.

Also present were the school’s principal Ahmad Fauzi Yaakob and chairman of the school’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA) Marini Juraibi.
