SERIAN: Three teenagers narrowly drowned during an outing at Ranchan Waterfalls here yesterday afternoon after they were swept away by strong currents.

The three survived a close brush with death after they were able to grab hold of a protruding metal rod in the middle of the waterway and hung on while their friends called the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for help.

Serian Bomba personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call at 4.54pm and proceeded to rescue the boys by securing them with rope and guiding them back to the bank. The three, aged between 17 and 19, were unhurt although they were shaken by the ordeal.
