KEPALA BATAS: Malaysians planning to visit Istanbul have been advised to contact Wisma Putra and the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey for developments on the bombing in Taksim Square, Istanbul on March 19.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said Wisma Putra has also opened a 24-hour line (03-88874570) to help the public get information on developments in Istanbul.

“The public or Malaysian tourists who are in Turkey also can contact our embassy in Ankara at +903124463547 or +903124463548 or [email protected] for information.

“Malaysia strongly condemns the bomb attack which killed five people and injured 36 others, including 12 foreigners,” he told reporters after launching a Padi Development and Modernisation programme in Lahar Bubu, near here today.

The Foreign Ministry will monitor the situation in Istanbul and will inform the public if there is any development on the bombing attack.

Reezal said there are 81 Malaysian students studying in Istanbul and that all of them are safe.

“Many Malaysian tourists are also in Istanbul. Wisma Putra has confirmed that no Malaysians are involved in the incident. – Bernama
