KUCHING: A total of 350 students from six community colleges in the Sarawak region participated in Explorace Challenge 2016 to enhance their intellectual, physical and emotional well-being yesterday. Assistant tourism minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip flagged off the race held at the Waterfront Esplanade here.

The programme was aimed at helping students maintain balance between academics and health, which was a central component of the curricula. In his brief address, he reminded students that hard work was the key to success.

“As a student, you have to work hard in your studies to achieve excellent results and later in the working world, you still need to work hard to excel in your career,” he said before the flagging-off ceremony.

On Explorace, Talib said its main objective was to promote Community College Sarawak while encouraging students to lead a healthy lifestyle. Participants, who were divided into 57 groups, got to test and improve their knowledge and living skills as they were delegated various tasks besides learning about the history and culture of Sarawak.

The race comprised 10 checkpoints – where they were required to complete tasks – covering a distance of five kilometres across Kuching city.

Also present were Community College Kuching director Shudermawan Jaruman as well as directors and representatives of directors from all six community colleges in Sarawak among them Community College Kuching, Community College Mas Gading, Community College Santubong, Community College Betong, Community College Sarikei and Community College Miri.
