MIRI: A field of 5,000 runners is expected at the Miri City Day Half Marathon 2016 scheduled for May 15 at Marina ParkCity.

Mayor Lawrence Lai said the run is organised by Robust Lifestyle in collaboration with Miri City Council (MCC) and Page Event.

The organising committee also received beverage sponsorship from F&N for the run.

“The Miri City Day Half Marathon 2016 is part of events in Miri May Fest in conjunction with the Miri City Day celebration this year.

“Last year, the Miri City Day Run that we organised for Miri City Day celebration was successfully implemented.

“Thus, we want to record a similar success this year,” he stated in a press conference on the Miri City Day Half Marathon 2016 recently.

Apart from local participation, Lai invited runners from outside Miri to join the run which is to promote a healthy lifestyle.

He said the Half Marathon is divided into three categories of 21km, 10km and a 5km Fun Run.

The 21km is divided into four categories of Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Veteran Men and Veteran Women with registration fee of RM90 per entry.

There are two categories for 10km run of Men’s Open and Women’s Open with registration fee of RM70 per person.

The 5km Fun Run is open to all ages with registration fee of RM50 per entry.

To attract student participation for the Fun Run, the organiser is offering a special package of allowing a two-student entry with only one registration fee.

However, students who take up this package will not receive running tee like the others as they are only entitled to get a bib and goodie bag each.
