KUCHING: Community College Kuching will improve the Tourism and Adventure Certification in order to assist the tourism industry of Sarawak.

Its director Shudermawan Jaruman said the 16-month full-time course was offered in Community College Kuching only.

“We will make improvement to the course to prepare graduates who are more competitive and possess entrepreneurship values after completion of training,” he said after flagging off participants of the Explorace Challenge 2016 at the Waterfront Esplanade here.

“At the same time, we will give training to lecturers so that they can better impart latest skills and knowledge to students,” he added.

Explorace was officiated by Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Talib Zulpilip who is also chairman of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). Besides producing tourism entrepreneurs, the course also aimed at overcoming the lack of tour guides in the state, Shudermawan pointed out.

“There are a lot of our students who have become registered tour guides, both in and outside the city. This is part of our plan,” he said.

The course has three intakes per year in the months of March, July and November with each intake comprising 30 students. Other than Tourism and Adventure, Community College Kuching also offers courses for Fashion Designing, Architecture, Creative Tailoring and many more.

The college plans to set up another institution this year which Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh is expected to announce soon.

There are presently six community colleges in Sarawak namely Community College Kuching, Community College Mas Gading, Community College Santubong, Community College Betong, Community College Sarikei and Community College Miri.
