MUARA: A 30-year-old local man yesterday morning died during a jetski competition at Serasa Beach, Brudirect reported.

His body which showed signs of injuries was found by Fire and Rescue personnel at around 12.39pm near Pelumpong Island, Muara.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is investigating the cause of the incident.

A member of the man’s family, who issued a clarification on the social media following growing speculation about the incident, confirmed that the man took part in the competition.

It was believed that all the riders were accounted for at the finish line except for the man who made a call earlier on his mobile phone to the event organiser to inform that his jetski had broken down and he was stranded near Pelumpong Island.

A search and rescue team was dispatched by the Fire and Rescue Department. The team was assisted in the operation by a group of jetski riders.

It was believed that strong winds and large waves may have been factors in the death of the man who was presumed to have drowned.

The man was not involved in a jetski collision as speculated by some people, according to the message posted on social media by the man’s family to give a clearer picture of what has happened.
