KUCHING: Over 300 members from 19 Big Bikers clubs in the city gathered to create history of sorts in what is said to be the biggest gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts during the ‘Charity Ride 2016’ here recently.

The event was organised by DD Western following tremendous response during their first edition of the charity ride in February, an event that not merely involved riding but was done in the name of charity.

According to Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) chairman who is also patron of the Charity Ride 2016 Tan Sri Abang Ahmad Urai Hakim Abang Mohideen, the programme served as a medium to provide exposures to big bikers in doing charity work while getting them closer with the orphans.

“Apart from fostering unity among the motorcycle enthusiasts in the city, Charity Ride 2016 also aims at moving them into the right direction by contributing their efforts in giving back to the society through social responsibility programmes,” he said during the flag-off ceremony for the ride at Kuching Waterfront.

Dressed in dapper mode, the big bikers hit the road at 1.30pm from Kuching Waterfront and rode all the way through Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Abell, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Pending, Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, Salahuddin Bridge, Jalan Demak, Jalan Diplomatik, Jalan Sultan Tengah and Jalan Bakti before arriving at Kompleks Kebajikan Laila Taib at 2pm.

The big bikers clubs that participated in the ride were the Royal Malaysian Police, Marshall, Tegar Bikers Motorclub, Sarawak Borneo Sporter Community, Southern Tips of Borneo Bikers, GMC, Bikers Mania Brotherhood, Z8 Community, Lady Bikers Kuching, Sarawak D2Roopers, Kuching Riders Crew, Royale Riders MC, All Bikers Nation, Mean Machine Brother Inc, Buceros Riders Club, Bike Brothers, Borneo Island Big Bikers, Bornshakers Big Bikers Club, Cahaya Bikers, Iron Tiger Bikers Club Kuching and Clunz Cluz.

They were delighted to be able to meet and spend quality time with the orphans at Sarawak Orphan Children Welfare Organisation (Peryatim) and even brought them for rides on their bikes.

During the programme, Ahmad Urai and members of the riders community presented a donation of RM10,000 to the complex.

“Such practice of sympathetic joy is really essential among our community and we are responsible to take good care of the orphans as well as those who really need our attention and assistance.

“Charity programmes like this must be instilled in the community and should be continued as one of our initiatives to guide the younger generation to be more confident, forming a healthy mind, and fostering a noble and responsible personality,” said Abang Ahmad Urai, adding that the younger generation including children of Peryatim were successors of the country’s vision and development of human capital.
