SIBU: More than 120 students from schools here have become better leaders and public speakers after attending a Swan City Toastmasters Club-organised Youth Leadership Camp at Methodist Centennial Park during the weekend.

Speaking at the camp, club president Eddie Chung urged the participants to choose to be extraordinary during their time at the camp.

“And the key secret to convert from ordinary to extraordinary is effort,” he told them.

The highlights of the camp programme were talks by guest speakers Stephen Fernando and Mohd Ariff Azahari.

Stephen is a professional trainer and a past district speech champion.

“I have conducted many training camps but none like this one organised by Swan City Toastmasters Club,” he said.

He said the club had dedicated and passionate leaders like Dr Clement Chen who had tirelessly organised the camp for the 13th consecutive year.

A speech contest was incorporated in the camp programme which resulted in Lee Jia Rou from SMK Tung Hua emerging the champion.

Ashley Panaguiton of Glow International Academy was placed second and Aaron Toh Aw Zien of Woodlands International School, third.
