SIBU: A website in Facebook is in the offing to better promote Bandong area as a main attraction for food lovers.

Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee revealing such a plan in the pipeline said activities could be uploaded to entice people to check out the area.

Dr Annuar said this would augur well for when Bandong Walk, Bandong Food Court and eateries at MUC hall were turned into a halal food centre in future.

He would discuss the way forward with Bandong Community Development Association Sibu.

“Activities can be uploaded, where social media will go a long way to promote Bandong as an exciting area to check out a wide range of mouthwatering local delicacies.

“This augurs well for food tourism,” he told The Borneo Post recently.

Bandong area is a potential area for the food and beverage industry.

“This will certainly create more business opportunities for bumiputeras who can venture into the food and beverage trade.”

Kampung Bandong was given a big boost when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak did a walkabout there last Saturday.

Najib toured Bandong Walk and tasted the myriad of mouthwatering delicacies before crossing over to MUC hall – just a stone’s throw away.

On another matter, Dr Annuar wanted to ensure unemployed youths in villages and longhouses in the constituency were equipped with the necessary skills.

He said it was important for youths unable to proceed to Form 5 to be equipped with skills required by industries.

Dr Annuar revealed that he would work closely with the industries, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Ministry of Human Resources to provide short courses for youths to seek employment.

Towards this end, a task committee would be formed to ensure Form 5 leavers be channelled to institutions to acquire skills if unable to further their studies.
