KUCHING: A young doctor was hurt in his face and body after he was assaulted by a group of men following a night out at an entertainment outlet early yesterday.

The 29-year-old who lodged a police report about the incident said he was about to leave a pub at Travillion commercial area in Padungan around 2.30am when he was suddenly confronted by nearly 10 men.

He said the men, who were all strangers to him, did not utter a word before raining blows and kicks on him until he fell.

The group only stopped the assault after the doctor pleaded with them and they stole his wallet and mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

A Civil Defence Department ambulance was summoned by by-standers to send the injured doctor to Sarawak General Hospital, where he received treatment prior to lodging his report.

In another incident, a 31-year-old man suffered slash wounds in a vicious attack by a mob following an accident near Ban Hock Road early yesterday.

The 31-year-old from Kampung Tabuan Melayu had earlier patronised a pub at Travillion commercial area before making his way to a popular eatery for supper around 2.30am.

The pickup truck he was driving apparently became involved in a minor collision with another vehicle, which degenerated into a heated argument between both parties.

At that juncture, a group of nearly 10 men was said to have attacked him with sharp weapons and smashed his vehicle before leaving the scene.

The victim, who sustained slash wounds below his jaw, stomach and arm, was admitted to Sarawak GH.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai confirmed the incident when contacted yesterday and said police are investigating the matter.

He also clarified that information gone viral on social media that the pickup truck was damaged following an ‘exchange of gun fire’ was completely false.

“Do not believe unverified information being spread on social media that the vehicle ended up like that following an exchange of gun fire. It was in fact a road accident-turned-assault case which resulted in the vehicle being damaged,” ACP Abang Ahmad said.
