KUCHING: A car accessory technician was arrested after he was caught with Ecstasy pills and two vials of liquid drugs worth RM12,000 during a raid yesterday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai confirmed that the 29-year-old local was detained by district Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) following a public tip-off.

“Acting on information from the public, a team from district NCID stopped the suspect in his car at Stampin Resettlement Scheme in Stutong around 1.10pm.

“A search of the vehicle uncovered a plastic bag hidden beneath the driver’s seat containing 190 ecstasy pills and two glass vials of liquefied drugs,” he said, adding the total value of the seizure was estimated at RM12,000.

The suspect was immediately detained in the lockup pending further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Abang Ahmad thanked the public whose information led to the arrest and large seizure.

“We declare war on drugs in the district, and need the cooperation of all members of the community.

“The police welcome all forms of tip-offs on drug-related activities which enable us to eradicate this scourge,” he said.
