KUALA LUMPUR: The US-Asean Business Council (USABC) led a delegation of 23 United States companies to Malaysia on April 5-8, offering continued support to the government on the implementation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
The delegation also encouraged the government to continue to play a leading role in the Asean Economic Community and pursue regional trade initiatives such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
In a statement yesterday, USABC said the mission was led by its President and Chief Executive Officer Alexander Feldman and USABC Malaysia Committee Chair Datuk Dr Nirmala Menon, adding the delegation was received by senior government officials.
Feldman said Malaysia’s current economic fundamentals are strong, with Gross Domestic Product growth forecast for 2016 at 4.5 per cent and continued ability to attract foreign direct investment – all signs of strength given yesterday’s global economic environment.
“Malaysia has opportunities to build on this foundation to unleash next generation growth engines and escape the middle income trap,” he said.
Companies participating in the delegation included AbbVie, Baxalta, Caterpillar, Chubb, Coca-Cola, ConocoPhilips, eBay, Facebook, GE, Google, Harley-Davidson, Herbalife, Intel, MasterCard, Mead Johnson Nutrition, Metlife, Phillip Morris, Procter & Gamble, Qualcomm, Syngenta, Time Warner, Uber and UPS. — Bernama
