Woman claims trial to 8 cheating charges

KOTA KINABALU: A 43-year-old mother claimed trial at he Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to eight counts of cheating a woman of a total of RM14,630 in a tour package scam.

Zunifah Menjin, who appeared before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie faces charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carry a jail term of up to 10 years and with whipping and also liable to a fine upon conviction.

On the first to the third charges, she had allegedly deceived one Siti Haimah Jailani into making her believe that she could manage a four-day-and-three-night holiday package from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur with payments of RM400, RM830 and RM700, respectively through a Maybank account.

Stephanie fixed May 19 this year for case management and released the accused on RM2,500 bail for each charge with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Zunifah was also charged at another court with three counts of cheating.

Zunifah, who was brought before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was charged with three counts of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

In the first to the third charges, Zunifah was alleged to have cheated the same victim, Siti Haimah, for the same purpose and induced her (Siti Haimah) to make payments of RM1,500, RM6,200 and RM4,200, respectively.

Jessica fixed Zunifah’s case management on April 28 his year and released her on RM2,500 bail for each charge with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

In another court, Zunifah had her case management set on May 18 this year for two charges of committing a similar offence.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus fixed the date for Zunifah, who was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

In the first and second charges, Zunifah had allegedly cheated Siti Haimah for the same purpose and induced her to make payments of RM600 and RM200, respectively.

All of the alleged offences were committed at Maybank in Inanam, Putatan, Kampung Air and here between 9.46am and 9.07pm on between January 7 and February 2.

Cindy released Zunifah on RM5,000 bail for both charges with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Prosecuting officers Inspector Lim Swee Beng, Azaman Hamat and Isfandiar Dr Jasdi prosecuted the cases respectively, while Zunifah was unrepresented.
