MIRI: Direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Pujut Datuk Hii King Chiong has pledged to prioritise issues neglected by the incumbent independent assemblyman Fong Pau Teck.

He said among them were prolonged drainage, road and closed circuit television (CCTV) camera issues faced by Krokop and Pujut residents.

“I’m always ready to serve the people of Pujut, not only during election time but have served in Pujut, Piasau and Senadin in the last five years through Majulah Miri Group and UPP (United People’s Party),” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

The 58-year-old businessman said infrastructure and public utilities would be his main agenda.

As a candidate under Team Adenan, Hii said he would focus on turning Pujut from a grey to white area for BN.

“I have done a lot of infrastructure development in Krokop, including drainage systems, where the place is now not a flood-prone area,” he said.

For the campaign trail, Hii said he would work with BN component parties, associations, organisations, clubs and individuals to ensure BN wins back Pujut.

Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pujut chairman Abu Bakar Amit said Hii deserves to be nominated as he has really gone down to the ground to identify issues faced by the people.

“Hii serves the people not only during election but is ever ready to hear and receive input from the community,” he said.

Surau Abu Bakar Assadiq Desa Senadin imam Abu Hurairah Mohamad said Hii has helped Christians, Buddhists and Muslims here.

He said Hii donated RM25,000 for the surau’s extension and another RM200,000 for a new surau.

“Hii is sincere in helping the community regardless of race and religion and we will come out in full force to support

him to win the seat,” said Abu Hurairah.
